Buildings and Grounds

The Buildings and Grounds Commission is responsible for maintaining our buildings and the grounds surrounding them: the church, the manse, and our Christian Education buildings.

The historic church building is our fourth, and was completed in 1870. The foundation blocks for this building were taken from the walls of the third stone building, so in a sense, the building really dates back to 1830. Three cemeteries surround the church. The history of the area and of our country dating back to before the Revolution can be seen with a stroll among the many markers there. You can see graves for the Grandin family, the Race family, and Charles Stewart (Commissary General for the Continental Army) and feel the history of this place.

Our first Christian Education bulding was completed in 1960. In 2001, we completed a new building that connects the historic church with the Christian Education Building and provides expanded classroom and meeting space and improved accessibility.

Our buildings require lots of loving care. Many improvements have been completed over the years, and many volunteers from the church family help with the maintenance of the buildings and grounds and assist the church sexton. If you have a special skill or are interested in volunteering, please contact the church office.

Accessibility
Bethlehem Presbyterian Church is a handicap friendly facility. There is a ramp leading to the sanctuary and the upper level of the Christian Education Buildings. The Fellowship Hall, church offices and lower level of the Christian Education Buildings are accessible at ground level. There are handicap-accessible restrooms on both levels, and an elevator to provide for easy access between floors. We have hearing assistance receivers and large print bibles and hymnals available in the sanctuary. We also welcome working dogs and therapeutic dogs who assist our disabled friends and family in their daily living.
Clean-up Days
Each Spring and Fall, a clean-up day is held. Volunteers do all kinds of tasks inside and out from cutting down trees to washing windows. This is a fun day with lots of fellowship and is usually started with a light breakfast. Check the church calendar for the next scheduled clean-up day.
